Hong Kong Baptist Hospital Supports “Appreciate Hong Kong” Campaign Provision of Free Hearing Test to the Elderly as a CSR Programme

(Hong Kong — 15 February, 2016) The Hong Kong Baptist Hospital has been making great efforts in supporting health-related charity and community programmes for the betterment of Hong Kong. For instance, the Hospital supports HKSAR Government’s “Appreciate Hong Kong” Campaign by offering 100 free hearing tests* to the elderly aged 65 or above from 18 February to 30 April, 2016.

The programme is to raise awareness of the elderly on hearing problem. In addition to ear diseases, hearing deterioration is a common issue in the elderly group. Unfortunately, many elderly are unaware of their hearing problems and the importance of taking hearing test earlier. The Hospital is concerned about the needs of the elderly in this aspect, hence it offers free hearing test to 100 elderly aiming to diagnose and improve their hearing problems as soon as possible. Should hearing aids are required, the participants can also opt for getting an appropriate hearing aid and follow-up service by professional audiologist at special price offered by the Hospital.

* Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA)
It is a basic, standard test to identify a person’s hearing threshold levels across a range of frequencies (250Hz to 8000Hz).  Patient’s degree and type of hearing loss can be determined.
