Having a baby should be a pleasure and a memorable experience. The Hong Kong Baptist Hospital Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department strives to offer the best,   family-centered, maternal and child care to you and your baby.

Scope of Services

  • Antenatal Education

Antenatal class with 4 sessions is regularly provided by the hospital in Cantonese.  Topics covered include health education, knowledge related to antenatal, prenatal issues, as well as advices on infant care and breastfeeding.

**Clients who have paid deposit at the Maternity Ward are entitled to join the classes free of charge.

Labour pain does cause a lot of anxiety to the mother. In addition to providing Pharmacological pain relief method, we provide different Non-pharmacological pain relief methods such as fit ball, childbirth massage and aromatherapy for your selection.  Please discuss with the medical or nursing staff for the best pain relief measure that fits your needs.

  • Nursery

In addition to the most comprehensive care to all the newborns delivered in the Hospital, our nursery actively promotes and supports breast feeding.  Skin-to-skin contact within the first two hours right after birth is important to the bonding between mothers and babies, as well as success in breast feeding.  Our professional nursing staff will do the best to facilitate the intimate contact between mothers and babies in this sensitive and critical hours.

A Special Care Baby Unit is set up to provide intensive care for premature babies or babies who require high dependency and special nursing care.

Spontaneous Birth Package

Mother
  • Room charges for 4 days 3 nights commencing from delivery day
  • Nursing care and close monitoring by nurses and midwives during hospitalization
  • Continuous fetal heart monitoring during labour
  • Delivery Room charge including basic facilities and equipment. No additional charges for assisted deliveries such as vacuum extraction or forceps delivery
  • Analgesic injections; Entonox (N2O) and local anaesthetic drugs, etc.
  • Post-partum care
  • Professional supervision and advice on new-born care: breast feeding, artificial feeding (such as bottle feeding or cup feeding), baby bath and umbilical cord care
  • Discharge instruction and advice
Baby
  • Cot charges for 4 days 3 nights (only when mother is in hospital)
  • Nursing care during hospitalization
  • Clothing and diapers
  • Umbilical cord blood sampling for neonatal screening (TSH & G6PD), blood grouping and Rh factor
  • New-born vaccinations (BCG and Hepatitis B Vaccine-first dose)
  • Vitamin K1 injection
General Information
  • Please proceed to the hospital immediately for examination and observation when signs of onset of labour appear, such as vaginal bleeding, breaking water (i.e. rupture of membranes), or regular uterine contraction
  • Husband is welcome to accompany wife during delivery
  • For admission registration, please present your personal identification document (husband and wife), doctor’s letter, laboratory reports and maternity deposit receipt (for mainland mother, please bring along confirmation certificate)
  • On admission before delivery, expectant mothers may opt to join a Maternity Package instead of charging by items. Once registered, change of option would not be entertained. For those who opt to change the Room Type during hospitalization, the Package charge will be based on the higher Room Type selected
  • Check-out time on discharge day is 1:00pm
  • No additional charges for spontaneous delivery on weekends or public holidays

 

Elective Casesarean Birth Package

Mother
  • Room charges for 5 days 4 nights commencing from delivery day
  • Nursing care and close monitoring by nurses and midwives during hospitalization
  • Pre-operative care
  • Theatre charges (including operation theatre faclities, equipment and anaesthetic drugs)
  • Post operative and post-partum care
  • Change dressings or off sutures once before discharge
  • Professional supervision and advice on new-born care :
  • breast feeding, artifical feeding (such as bottle feeding or cup feeding), baby bath and umbilical cord care
  • Discharge instruction and advice
Baby
  • Cot charges for 5 days 4 nights (only when mother is in hospital)
  • Nursing care during hospitalization
  • Clothing and diapers
  • Umbilical cord blood sampling for neonatal screening (TSH & G6PD), blood grouping and Rh factor

General Information
  • Expectant mothers who are scheduled for caesarean section in the morning are requested to arrive at the maternity ward after 2pm on the day before operation day, or at least 6 hours before operation time, for registration, pre-operative care and preparation
  • For admission registration, please present your personal identification document (husband and wife), doctor’s letter, laboratory reports and maternity deposit receipt (for mainland mother, please bring along confirmation certificate)
  • Please do not take any food or drink for 6 hours before the operation
  • Regular operation theatre hours :
  • Monday to Saturday 7:30am to 9:30pm (excluding Sunday and public holidays)
  • On admission before delivery, expectant mothers may opt to join a Maternity Package instead of charging by items. Once registered, change of option would not be entertained. For those who opt to change the Room Type during hospitalization, the Package charge will be based on the higher Room Type selected
  • Check-out time on discharge day is 1:00pm

O&G Registration

HK Residents / Non-mainland China Foreigners

  1. Procedure of paying deposit:

1.1 Document required Maternity Booking Form bearing the Antenatal Booking No. and date of confinement

1.3 Paying procedure:

1.3.1 Pay in person

Present identity document of the expectant mother

        • HK Resident – HK Identity Card
        • Foreigner – Passport
        • Copy of HK identity document of the expectant mother is required if payment is made by representative.

OR

  1. Deadline: within one month from the date when Antenatal Booking No. is given.

 

Non-HK Residents (Mainland China)

  1. Procedure:
  • Expectant mother must come with her husband in person to pay Deposit and collect the Confirmation Certificate on Delivery Booking. Representative will not be accepted.
  • Expectant mother must complete the first antenatal check-up in Hong Kong and provide doctor’s letter bearing the Antenatal Booking No. (non-transferable) and Date of Confinement as well as the completed Maternity Registration Form.
  • The Couple must present the valid original copy of :
    • Expectant mother’s Exit-Entry Permit for Traveling to and from Hong Kong and Macau, and Mainland China Identity Card
    • The Husband’s :
      • HK Permanent Resident Identity Card, OR
      • HK Identity Card AND One-way Permit to HK and Macau (前往港澳通行證, 俗稱「單程證」)
    • Marriage Certificate of the Couple issued by HKSAR Government, OR
      • For marriage certificate issued in the Mainland, an extra proof of the marriage notarized by a Notary Public in the Mainland China should also be required;
      • For overseas marriage certificate, an extra proof of the certificate signing officer issued by the PRC Embassy of the country;
    • Both the husband and the wife have to take oaths provided from Home Affairs Department separately for proof
  1. Deadline: within one month from the date when Antenatal Booking No. is given.

  • Breast Feeding Support
    • Breast Feeding Booklets are given to each mother on admission
    • To facilitate skin-to-skin contact between mothers and babies for breastfeeding as soon as possible after delivery
    • To encourage feeding on demand if baby receives no supplement
    • To have room-in babies for mother occupying single rooms
    • To provide international lactation consultants to give advice to solve breastfeeding problems
    • To provide comfortable Breast Feeding Room
    • Various kinds of breastfeeding accessories such as Nipple Soothing Cream, Nipple Shields, Breast Pump, Cool Relief Packs are available
    • To give follow up phone calls to mothers on breastfeeding concerns after discharge
    • Breast Feeding Support Group
