Pastoral Services

Clinical Pastoral Education

Aims

With the aims of enhancing professional quality and achieving personal growth of participants, the Hospital organizes CPE programs for chaplains, ministers and seminary students to learn pastoral care under supervision in a holistic care setting.

The Hospital provides clinical practice for students to learn pastoral care and assessment of spiritual needs of patients and relatives under their care.  It can facilitate students to reflect on their roles, values, beliefs, pre-supposition and theology as a minister.  With the involvement in peer group learning under supervision, students can also evaluate how one’s personality and pastoral style affects one’s ministry.   Students can also learn how to be a capable member in cooperation with other medical professionals as a team in the caring of patients.

Content of the Programme

The Hospital started the first CPE program in 1987.  Each Unit constitutes not less than 300 hours of clinical practice and not less than 100 hours of lessons including didactic seminar, pastoral care skills workshop, case conference, interpersonal relation group, individual supervision and so on.
