Patient's Charter

Endoscopy refers to the procedure of putting an endoscope (tube or capsule) into patient's body through natural openings (mouth or anus) for screening, diagnosis and treatment of various gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases. Patients with various gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic and pulmonary diseases can be easily handled by non-surgical endoscopic methods.

Hong Kong Baptist Hospital introduced endoscopy service in 1992, its Endoscopy and Endosonography Centre is staffed by a team of experienced doctors and specially trained nurses to deliver professional endoscopy services. To meet the ever increasing demand for endoscopy service, HKBH has opened the new A3 Endoscopy & Procedure Centre, the number of endoscopy procedure rooms has expanded from 8 to 14, one of which is a negative pressure room for bronchoscopy examination.

Advanced Equipment

The Centre has a variety of sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic instruments which include endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) system, capsule endoscopy system for non-invasive oesophageal, small bowel and colonic examination, and a single balloon enteroscopy system for treating dfficult small bowel diseases. All procedure rooms are equipped with the advanced model of high definition video endoscopy system and narrow band imaging (NBI) system for early gastrointestinal cancer detection. The advanced endoscopy system and new endoscope deliver more refined image quality for better diagnosis and effective treatment. In addition, the new procedure rooms use blue light which further enhances image and quality on monitor patients’ feelings of wellbeing.

With the EndoCapture System, doctors may capture high definition images by using one of the preset control buttons on the endoscope during examination. They can retrieve patient records and prepare reports at ease. The Centre’s equipment reprocessing zone adopts the theory of our internationally accredited CSS Department, with clear division of four zones, including Dirty Zone, Reprocessing Zone, Cleaning Zone and Disinfected Equipment Store. Used endoscopes are thoroughly disinfected and then go to Cleaning Zone before entering Disinfected Equipment Store, this ensures patients’ health by raising the infection control level.

Patients with hectic schedules can choose day ward instead of an inpatient bed for short stay in hospital before and after the procedure. New centre comes with new day ward arrangement, patients can arrange examination more flexibly.
