Endoscopy refers to the procedure of putting an endoscope (tube or capsule) into patient's body through natural openings (mouth or anus) for screening, diagnosis and treatment of various gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases. Hong Kong Baptist Hospital introduced endoscopy service in 1992, its Endoscopy and Endosonography Centre is one of the most fully equipped endoscopy centres among local private hospitals. The Centre is staffed by a team of experienced doctors and over 30 specially trained nurses to deliver professional endoscopy services.
To meet the ever increasing demand for high-quality endoscopy service, the Centre was expanded in December 2008 to accommodate eight examination rooms which include one negative pressure room for bronochoscopy examination. All examination rooms are equipped with the latest model of high definition video endoscopy system and the advanced narrow band imaging (NBI) system for early gastrointestinal cancer detection.
|
In addition, the Centre has a variety of sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic instruments which include the most advanced endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) system in Asia, the latest capsule endoscopy system for non-invasive oesophageal, small bowel and colonic examination, and a single balloon enteroscopy system for treating difficult small bowel diseases. With all these latest technologies, patients with various gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic and pulmonary diseases can be easily handled by non-surgical endoscopic methods.
