The Hong Kong Baptist Hospital Women's Health Centre is a medical centre with a team of female specialists. We provide quality health care to women with different health problems. Nowadays, women's concern on health care is increasing along with their high educational level. As a result, there is a growing demand for better women's health services.
Specialist Outpatient Clinic
A team of three female specialists in family medicine, surgery and gynaecology provide comprehensive one stop services for women.
Family Medicine
The family physician provides primary care and she is trained to diagnose and treat a wide variety of ailments in patients of all ages.
Common diseases:
- Hypertension means continuing elevation of arterial pressure, which will damage blood vessels of heart, brain, kidney and eye, therefore, regular check up is important.
- High Cholesterol means too much bad cholesterol inside the blood vessels which will lead to coronary heart disease and stroke. Regular checking of blood lipid is of the utmost importance.
- Osteoporosis is a silent disease, going undetected for many years until a fracture occurs. It is recommended women should check their bone density regularly.

General Surgery
The Centre is staffed by a qualified specialist in general surgery to provide surgical services. Through patient listening and investigation, our surgeon aims at providing suitable management to patients. She is also concerned about patient's psychological and spiritual needs throughout the illness.
Common diseases:
- Breast lump can be caused by fibrocystic disease, fibroadenoma or breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer of Hong Kong female. If there is a breast lump, clinical examination and investigations are recommended.
- Per rectal bleeding may be caused by haemorrhoids, colitis, ulcers, colorectal polyps or colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer of Hong Kong female. If there is per rectal bleeding, please seek medical advice.
- Goitre causes neck swelling. The cause of goiter includes thyrotoxicosis, colloid nodules, benign and malignant thyroid tumor. Thyroid function test, ultrasound and tissue biopsy are recommended for further investigation.

Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Obstetrician and Gynaecologist looks after women for their pregnancy and gynaecological problems at different stages of life. Women may experience different physiological and psychological changes during menarche, pregnancy, middle age and climacteric changes. Our female Obstetric and Gynaecology specialist provides not only expert care, but may also understand women's need and feelings better.
Common diseases:
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding is the commonest gynaecological problem which can be caused by both benign and malignant diseases in the genital tract. Early consultation is warranted.
- Benign genital tract tumour (e.g. ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids) can present with lower abdominal pain or be asymptomatic. Minimally invasive surgery can be the choice for early disease.
- Cervical cancer can be “preventable” when the premalignant condition (CIN) is treated early and effectively, and thus regular cervical screening is recommended.
